“Seconds after completing yet another successful Super Bowl halftime show performance, Beyoncé dropped a world tour announcement on us,” Huffingtonpost.com stated.
“The singer was last on a stadium tour — the On the Run Tour with husband Jay Z — in 2014, a year after she headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans. Sunday’s halftime performance included Beyonce’s new song, “Formation,” released Saturday causing Internet frenzy,” abcnews.go.com reported.
“The announcement comes just a day after she released her politically charged and critically acclaimed new single Formation, in which she owns her black identity and Southern heritage, and endorses the #BlackLivesMatter movement,” 11alive.com reported.
Beyonce will embark on her first headlining stadium tour this summer with the 40-date Formation tour, set to begin April 27. Tickets will go on sale next week, starting with an Amex pre-sale. The tour’s 40 shows will be split fairly evenly between North America and the U.K. and Europe, with Canada and the U.S. to run through mid-June. The U.K./Europe leg will start in mid-June and run through July, according to Billboard.com.
Beyonce has developed into one of the elite touring acts in the world. Her Mrs. Carter World Tour of 2013-2014 grossed $212 million from attendance of nearly 2 million to 126 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore. Following that tour, she launched the On The Run co-headlining stadium run with her husband, Jay Z, which grossed $96 million from 832,769 tickets sold to just 19 shows in North America, according to Billboard.com.
