Hayoa Miyazaki,The creator of My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, plans to build a nature park named, “The Forest Where the Wind Returns” according to Conde Nast Traveler. He hopes this park will help connect children with nature rather than rides.
This 10,000 square meters nature sanctuary is set to open to the public in 2018 and will be located in the virgin forest on Kume Island (Kumejima), about 55 miles from Okinawa, according to Kyodo News.
Miyazaki has worked on over 30 movies, all on the subject on balancing nature and man. It is not at all surprising that he would want to build and a nature sanctuary where children can learn how to appreciate the beauty of nature, rather than roller coasters.
Kids will be bunked in small, two-story buildings that can contain about 30 people at a time, and will be encouraged to experience a raw connection with nature. Miyazaki has spent approximately 2.5 million dollars of his own money, reported Kyodo News, in order to make his dream come true.
