“A new hero is born,” stated ew.com about Rick Riordan’s new newly published novel, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer which focuses on Viking mythology.

“Riordan easily embraces the myths and legends of his subject and makes them fit his stories,” stated theguardian.com.

Rick Riordan is known for his books on mythology such as Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which covers Greek legend, The Kane Chronicles, a series on Egyptian folklore, and the Heroes of Olympus which is on Roman mythology, according to ew.com. Now in his new novel he is making a transition to the Norse gods.

“Magnus Chase has lived alone on the streets of Boston… One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god… The gods of Asgard are preparing for war… monsters are stirring for doomsday,” stated goodreads.com.

“To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .” stated goodreads.com.

Magnus Chase must find a rope to tie up the Fenris wolf- a monster that can hurt gods and is the son of Loki, the god of mischief- or there will be Doomsday. There is war and the world could be destroyed and return to the black depths from where it came. Magnus starts his quest and is helped by Blitzer the dwarf, Hearthstone the elf, a Valkyrie called Samirah, his cousin Annabeth Chase, and Jack the Sword, according to theguardian.com.

“You don’t know what’s going to happen next,” stated theguardian.com.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is currently in bookstores and can be purchased on Amazon for $11.99.
