With Halloween just around the corner, we at the Matador Messenger have compiled a list of our top ten best horror movies for your terrifying viewing pleasure.

10. Halloween

To start off the list here’s a classic, 1978s Halloween. This erie flick follows Michael Myers a mental patient who was admitted for stabbing his sister when he was only 6 years old, but things take a turn for the worse when he escapes 15 years later and goes on a killing spree.

9. Poltergiest

In Stephen Spielberg’s creepy horror flick of the 80s a young family is terrorized by ghosts, at first the ghosts appear friendly, then they turn wicked and “kidnap” the youngest daughter.

8. Paranormal Activity

When a young couple, Katie and Micah, move into a new home, Micah savors the moment by capturing it with his video camera. Strange things start happening in the night, unfortunatley things get worse night by night.

7. A Nightmare Before Christmas

When Jack Skellington, pumpkin king of Halloween Town, stumbles into christmas town, with help from his friends from halloween town he makes it his objective to kidnap “sandy claus” and become santa claus himself.

6. Addams Family

When uncle Fester has been missing for 25 years, an evil doctor finds out and introduces a fake uncle Fester to the Addams family in attempt to get their money. While the youngest daughter Wednesday Addams has some doubts about the new uncle Fester, the fake uncle adapts very well to the strange family.

5. Beetlejuice

In this goofy Halloween comedy couple Barbara and Adam Maitland are killed in a car crash, only to come back and find themselves trapped as ghosts in their beautiful New England farmhome. When their piece is disrupted when a family, the Deetzs, buy their house. They find themselves too nice and harmless as ghosts, they eventually turn to another ghost, Beetlejuice, for help.

4. A Clockwork Orange

Although this movie may not be for the faint of heart due to graphic and disturbing imagery, A Clockwork Orange follows Alex Delarge, charismatic delinquent, who is jailed and volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in effort to solve society’s crime problem…. but not all goes according to plan.

3. Night Of The Living Dead

In this definite classic, the dead come back to life and feast on the living, although several people barricade themselves inside a small house in attempt to survive the night, outside are the walking corpses that will not stop until they feed on the living, will they survive the night.

2. Psycho

When phoenix secretary Marion Crane is on the run for stealing $40,000 from her employer to run away from her boyfriend, Sam Loomis. Overrun by exhaustion, she checks into the Ramshackle Bates Motel, she meets the polite but highly strung owner, Norman Bates, a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.

1. Red Dragon

Expert investigator, Will Graham, who quit the bureau after almost dying in the process of capturing the horrifying Dr. Lecter. After a series of gory murders, Graham soon realizes the best way to catch his killer, known as the tooth fairy, is to get inside a killer’s mind. For him this means confronting his past and facing his former nemesis, the now imprisoned Lecter.
