Matador Exclusive Interview: Ashley Benson from “Pretty Little Liars” Gives Advice to Young Actors

“Hanna and I have recently had a lot of similarities within the last couple seasons,” said the Pretty Little Liars star, Ashley Benson, in an interview for the Matador Messenger.

“They have put a lot of my personality into her and have added a bit of comedy. I think her friendship with the girls is pretty similar to ones with my close friends,” reflected Benson. “In the first couple seasons she was more of the mean girl, but within the last two years she’s became really funny and down to earth which is how I am in real life.”

” Know how to handle rejection,” is Ashley’s advice for young teens trying to make it into professional acting. “There is ton of rejection and negative things thrown at you but you have to stay positive and work hard and not let that bring you down,” she added.

“Everyone has a time in their life when things won’t work out. Jobs don’t come easy for everyone. I had to work almost ten years to get to where I am now and I’m nowhere close to where I want to be,” Ashley explained. “But, with each project I do I am constantly learning new skills and working with amazing actors that I’ve always looked up to. You have to be hungry and work hard to make it in this business,” she added.

Ashley is a native of Anaheim Hills, California and has been competitively dancing since she was two, according to, modeled, and by the age of 10 pursued acting as a career. She has appeared in 35 commericials, other theatrical roles, and now is best known for her work in Pretty Little Liars, according to her bio at

In middle school Benson’s  favorite subjects were creative writing and Spanish. “I love to read and write stories. It was one of my favorite things to do when I was in school,” said Ashley. “Spanish was also a favorite. I love learning new languages and I think it’s a great skill to have if you travel a lot,” commented Ashley.
