BYMS Instrumental Musician of the Week: Katie Travassaros

“It’s a big honor and I am really excited!” Congratulations, Katie Travassaros, Mrs. Watson has chosen you as the musician of the week, October 21.

“She strives to be the very best she can be, she works very hard, and has strong leadership skills,” said Mrs. Watson, BYMS Band Director.  Katie plays the alto saxophone in the Wind Ensemble and is the lead saxophone in jazz. Katie has been playing the saxophone for four years and has learned much since.

Katie is also Bernardo’s drum major. “She is doing a wonderful job of leading the Marching Matadors in our parades,” said Mrs. Watson. Katie has earned 2nd place drum major in both the Placentia Heritage Days Parade and the Tustin Tiller Days and, according to Mrs. Watson, Katie has been improving since.

Katie’s success comes with a lot of hard work. Katie practices for varying hours everyday and gets advice on how to improve her performance from Mrs. Watson in class.  Katie says that the most important thing that she has learned this year is the power of dynamics and how much better in makes the band sound. Katie has also found that there is always ways to improve and to help others improve. Well done, Katie!
