Where in the world can you find a living, growing tunnel with parts over a hundred years old? The answer is the Wisteria Flower Gardens located in Kitakyushu City, Japan.

The Wisteria Flower Garden attracts tourists from around the world. It is in the Kawachi Fujien Private Wisteria Garden, and is only open to visitors during Wisteria Season, which is when the color of the leaves change in late April, according to JMWM.com.

“It’s practically impossible to walk through the pastel-colored passageway of wisteria flowers at the Kawachi Fuji Gardens in Kitakyushu without imagining an elegant fairy princess and her one-horned white steed prancing alongside you,” stated contributors to the travel website, Atlas Obscura.

The tunnels became well-known in 2012, but just recently had a spike in popularity. Due to this, Wisteria Flower Garden has introduced another tunnel. An 80m long tunnel (263 feet) and a 220m long (722 feet) tunnel can be found at the gardens.

“There are huge wisteria trellises at the end of the tunnels and you can see wisteria trees which are more than 100 years old,” according to Japan Monthly Web Magazine. “Once you step into the wisteria tunnel, you will be overwhelmed by the fresh scent and the beautiful scenery of numerous clusters of flowers lying on top of one another.”
