Statue of King Ramses II Discovered in the Ancient City of Heliopolis

A statue of what people think is King Ramses II was discovered in ancient city of Heliopolis on March 10, 2017, while German and Egyptian archaeologist were working near the ruins of Ramses II’s temple.

“We found the bust of the statue and the lower part of the head and now we removed the head and we found the crown and the right ear and a fragment of the right eye,” Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani told mnn.com.

Once the excavation is complete, the Antiquities Minister stated that the statue would be placed at the entrance of the soon to be opened new Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo mnn.com stated.

According to Ancient History Encyclopedia, Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses the Great, was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt. He often is regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the Egyptian Empire.

    This Article is interesting because this statue is so old and it is still in decent condition considering that they found a crown and a part of the eye. This is a cool article!
