Esperanza High School incoming freshmen can elect to get a taste of military service by enrolling in the ROTC program ( Reserve Officer Training Corps) which is an academic course connected with a co-curricular component, similar to band or musical theater.  according to goodnews.com.

“Military academies and ROTC scholarships offer an excellent means for academically talented students to receive an education at no cost,” stated esperanzahs.net.

ROTC can be a huge part in getting a scholarship to many major colleges, according to ocregister.com

A full scholarship can cost up to $250,000. But, if a school gives you a full scholarship, you will be able to go in for free. If you were to want to get a scholarship for air forces, you would have to get good grades.

“After serving in the Air Force for 28 years, having the opportunity to build the AFJROTC ( Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) program at Esperanza has proved to be a perfect new career,” said retired Col. Robert J. Weisenberger, senior aerospace science instructor, in an interview with the Matador Messenger “That’s because I have the best students in the school. They work hard and do amazing things. They make me proud every day,” according to goodnews.org.

“College ROTC scholarships are competitive but not impossible.  You need to be a balanced person.  So, the person who does well in their academics, who plays sports, is a member of clubs and other school activities and does community service would be ideal. -Students majoring in areas like Computer Science and Engineering are ranked higher.”

“Also, nursing majors are also strongly preferred.  The greatest benefit of a ROTC scholarship for college is that you will finish with no debt and have a guaranteed job with big responsibilities right after graduation,” stated Weisenberger.
